Preparing for the coming weeks, Ethan and I were discussing routines for the next few weeks so he won’t have to be surprised by much of anything. (This is our ritual. Living with Ethan’s Asperger’s Syndrome, we’ve learned via experience that the more prepared he is for something new, the better enabled he will be to handle it.) So, while eating a leisurely breakfast this hot Saturday morning, we talked about finishing up our summer play group (a.k.a. social skills group), going on a quick vacation to Austin and San Antonio next week, and after that starting Kindergarten. <Sob, sob.>

As always, Greg chimed in with some silly teasing and said to Ethan, “After Kindergarten you’ll graduate from high school, get married and have your own kids.” Without missing a beat, Ethan replied, “Oh boy! That sounds like a busy life!” He’s right. It all passes so quickly in this busy life–if you let it. Ethan’s snappy reply offered us a brief reprieve from the whooshing of time and gifted us with several moments of laughter and the joy that comes with sharing Ethan’s pure-hearted, sweet views on life.

Greg came to me at the sink and said, “That one HAS to go on your blog!” Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

    A family with kids.
    Is busy indeed.
But to have a sweet Ethan.
    Is just what we need.
    A boy who can look.
    And see with his heart.
    When you started your ‘family’
    You made a great Start!

    Xx, Diane Roberts
